10 Things To Do With Coconut Oil

I am still amazed when I talk to people and they don’t have coconut oil around their house at ALL times! WHY NOT?!

I have seen a million articles about the benefits of coconut oil and often think everyone has heard this by now! But there are still somehow people out there that are missing the thousands of Facebook blog posts, and the magazine articles and blurbs on the news! I have no idea how this is possible, but it is! So, here we go again. smiley

10 Things to do with Coconut Oil


1. COOK!

Cook everything in coconut oil! Saturate your food if you please. WHY? Because it is full of heart healthy fat. I heat my pan up with a scoop of coconut oil literally every time I cook. I cook eggs in coconut oil, I cook chicken in coconut oil, steak, veggies, on and on and on! If anyone tells you coconut oil is unhealthy because it is purely saturated fat and that you should switch to unsaturated fats like canola, soybean or vegetable oil, simply walk away. (And make a mental note not to ever take their health advice again.) Multiple studies on Pacific Island populations who get 30-60% of their total caloric intake from fully saturated coconut oil have all shown nearly non-existent rates of cardiovascular disease. Saturated fats that are man-manipulated are bad for the body, but the naturally occurring saturated fats are amazing. Once again, God knew what he was doing and man screwed it all up!

2. Coffee

Adding coconut oil to black coffee adds a hint of coconut and replaces dairy creamers. It’s a great way to sweeten coffee and give your body a quick kick of energy in the morning.

3. Lotion

I never use chemical and toxin filled lotions. Your skin is a sponge and literally absorbs whatever is on it. Coconut oil is great for the skin with its antioxidants that help to keep your skin looking young and fresh.

4. Hair Conditioner

Lathering your hair with coconut oil and sleeping with a cap on gives your hair the best deep conditioning and split-end repair! Rinse it out in the morning and you will have silky, healthy hair that won’t need to be conditioned again for months.

5. Cuts, Scrapes, Stings & Bites

Coconut Oil has extremely amazing antibacterial properties. If you have a wound of any kind, rub coconut oil on it to keep it from getting infected.

6. Eye-makeup remover

I remember watching my mom take off her mascara every single night with a glob of Vaseline. I can picture her right now sitting next to the bed with her index finger sliding around her eye over and over then swiping the black excess with a Kleenex. But we all know now (or so we should) that Vaseline is toxic to the body as a carcinogenic. Coconut oil is a great Vaseline replacer and can be used to safely remove eye makeup, while adding antioxidant and antiaging properties to the very place that wrinkles tend to develop.

7. Chapstick

My sister is absolutely addicted to chapstick (sorry sis…your secrets out.). She lathers her lips every single night before bed. And I’m not talking a little dab, its well beyond the borders of the lips! And a thick layer! It’s a beautiful sight before bed. Ha! There are a lot of Chapstick junkies out there that claim to be addicted and this is why...Chapstick contains ingredients (amphor, phenol and menthol) that actually dry the lips out more. Any ingredient ending in -ol is an alcohol, and alcohol is a drying agent. Replace your lip balms with coconut oil. It moisturizes and actually heals! Dry, chapped lips are also an indication of dehydration. Up your water as well!

8. Suntan Lotion

Coconut oil will leave your skin oily attracting the sun, but has a naturally occurring SPF. Because it hydrates the skin, you will not burn as quickly. Still use caution when laying in the sun. Burning is the danger of the sun, not the sun itself! Suntan lotions contain carcinogenic chemicals. And remember, even SPF as low as 15 blocks your body’s ability to convert sun rays to Vitamin D by 99%.

9. Acne Cream

Coconut oil has anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties! A thin layer can greatly reduce acne, while hydrating and healing the skin.

10. Base for anything homemade

There are so many recipes out there to make healthy deodorant, lotion, soap, shampoo, and conditioner with coconut oil as the base of them all! It’s the best thing to have on hand because you can always build on it!
